Short Biography:
co-director Barry Battles:
Mr. Extion was born from the perception that there are no truly original ideas left. That concept coupled with geographical and financial limitations is what got the ball rolling on our short. We knew we wanted to show two different perceptions; the reality and the ideal. The reality being this biting friendship where the two main characters spend most of the time shooting each other's ideas, and their own, down while never saying to one another what they really want to say. The fantasy allows them to communicate verbally and physically, in a way that is traditionally done in the "movies". We wanted to make sure that the reality and the fantasy looked and felt conflicted, which is where cinematographer Carl Ross came into play. He stylized the project by giving us a handheld documentary look verses a smooth fluid composition to the shots, depending on which scene was at hand. The ending was more of a metaphor than a Red Herring, with intent to convey the idea that accidents happen, life is short, stop wasting time complaining about the negative before you ruin a friendship or accidentally get blown up by a bumbling assassin.
co-director Griffin Hood:
We set out to make a film on as little as possible but also do our best not to lose quality in the process. We made a film that we enjoy and we put alot of ourselves into it in the hopes that other people will enjoy it as well. Making a film in Alabama can be quite a difficult task considering there aren't many film related resourced readily available. There are however talented people itching to try and show their abilities. Whether or not those abilities are good is up for somebody else to decide. All we can hope is for our film to make people smile and feel like it was 10 minutes of their life that they enjoyed. |
