In a gloomy bar a nameless intern attempts to recruit Dockweiler Avery, the greatest whaler to ever live, to help kill the most destructive whale in history. Dockweiler is reluctant, but agrees to join when he learns that whaling idol Naples Tinkleton is in charge of the expedition citing the fact that Naples is a joke who is going to botch the mission. Naples is less than excited about the addition to the crew, but because the league insisted on Dockweiler's help. Naples eggs Dockweiler on about why he quit whaling. Dockweiler gives a very vague answer “something really bad happened”. They set sail and are quickly swallowed and trapped in the whale's stomach. Dockweiler reveals that the reason for the whale's menace is that he killed the whale's parents. Naples completely loses it. He tells the intern to kill Dockweiler, saying that all of their problems stem from his mistake so many years ago. The intern refuses and Dockweiler heads to the whale's heart to put an end to the whale's destruction. Naples attacks the intern and the two battle. Naples collapses into a harpoon and Dockweiler stabs the whale in the heart. Intern manages to escape the writhing whale. He sits on a pier and reflects upon what just happened, realizing that perhaps whaling isn't the life he was supposed to live. Dockweiler returns and reinforces what Intern has just discovered, encouraging his to embrace the freedom that lies ahead of him.
